Mets end 7-game losing streak, Bae Ji-hwan gets Pittsburgh’s only hit

The New York Mets and San Diego Padres are the two teams with the least bang for their buck in the first half of the year.

The Mets were shocked to be swept in a three-game series against the division rival Atlanta Braves earlier this week. They blew three-run leads in all three games, highlighting the fragility of their bullpen.

To add insult to injury, Atlanta veteran Charlie Morton pitched and Home Run Derby leader Pete Alonzo, who leads the league in home runs (22), was placed on the disabled list with a wrist injury and will miss the next four weeks. The three-game series in Atlanta was all crab and no crab.

The aftermath of the sweep of Atlanta was a seven-game losing streak after a 7-14 debacle the day before. Senga Kodai, 30, who signed a five-year, $75 million free agent contract in the offseason at PNC Park on Nov. 11, saved the team from the losing streak. They are 31-34 on the season.

Senga held the Pittsburgh bats, including Bae Ji-Hwan, to two hits, four walks and six strikeouts over seven innings in a 5-1 victory. Pittsburgh’s only run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bae scored on a Bae Ji-Hwan grounder to break a 1-1 tie.메이저놀이터

The Mets added four runs in the seventh and ninth innings on back-to-back doubles by Mark Canha and catcher Francisco Alvarez’s homer (No. 12) in the eighth. Kanha, batting ninth, led the way with three hits to snap a three-game losing streak.

Pittsburgh went a combined three-for-four, with one hit apiece from the second through fourth spots in the batting order. The day before, they had 17 hits, including two home runs. Bae Ji-hwan, who started at second base, went 0-for-4 to improve his batting average to .271. The RBI was his 17th of the season.

Pittsburgh improved to 33-30 on the season and maintained a one-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers (34-31), who lost 1-2 in 10 extra innings to the Oakland A’s on Sunday. Oakland, the MLB’s worst team, dropped back-to-back games to Pittsburgh and Milwaukee for the first time this season.
