OK, you should do this – at least once!
I hiked my first slot canyon in 2003 and fell in love with it.
A slot canyon is a narrow canyon, formed by the abrasion of water flowing through rock.
Slot canyons are much deeper than they are wide. Some slot canyons measure only 1 to 3 feet from the top, but drop over 100 feet to the bottom of the canyon.
As a vacation planner, I look for places we haven’t been to. Upon doing my research, I came across some fascinating pictures from slot canyons.
After much deliberation, I settled on a small wild horse canyon north of Hanksville, Utah.
Why should I do this?
· Fairly easy hike
· new experience
· Amazing formations due to the action of water
· Numerous photo opportunities
Bragging rights (“Look what I did!”)
· not crowded
The therapeutic value of time spent in nature
Even if you’re not a regular hiker, Little Wild Horse Canyon has a slight elevation change so most people can enjoy this wonderful Creation.
The only problem you may have is if you have claustrophobia. At its leanest, the Little Wild Horse narrows to about 18 inches. Its several lengths are only 2-3 feet wide.
The hike is harmless enough and begins with typical high desert plants and scenery. What makes the first part of the trail interesting is the fact that it is outside of the hectic schedules that consume most people’s lives these days. We are also looking forward to the joys you will experience soon.
Even if you’re not yet in slot canyon, don’t rush through the first part. You can see the gophers scurrying about. They are definitely tiny beggars and they are so cute, but please refrain from feeding them. Feeding wild animals can be fun for a little while, but when enough of it happens, it conditions people to rely on handouts as they give up their normal foraging habits. Animals fed by humans typically live half as long as animals that are not fed. 슬롯사이트
If it’s early morning or late afternoon, you might even see deer.
Around the corner after about 10 minutes you arrive at a very attractive slot. If you’re like us, you’ll assume slots canyon and head right there. It’s not like that. Well, the slots are fine, but they’re only a few yards long. To get to the narrow section of Little Wild Horse, follow the trail that skirts the left side of the first deceptive little slot.
and you will reach a ledge about 15 to 20 feet above the canyon floor below. There are several routes to get down to the ledge, so just go down the one that looks the best.
The entrance to Little Wild Horse Canyon (LWHC) faces northeast. Taking off to the northwest, you will enter Bell Canyon, which is not as spectacular as Little Wild Horse. If you start in that direction, you can make an 8 mile loop and return via LWHC. This makes it very easy to miss the connector between Bell Gorge and Little Wild Horse Gorge, so a topographical map of the area is highly recommended.
