‘Goosebumps’ Shin Yubin wins thrilling upset at worlds…quarterfinal opponent ‘world No. 1’

Shin Yubin (World No. 26-Korean Air) pulled off a goosebump-inducing upset.

Shin defeated Jiannan Yuan (18th-France) 4-3 (9-11 11-9 11-9 8-11 9-11 11-5 12-10) in the women’s singles third round (Round of 32) at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships 2023 in Durban, South Africa, on Friday (KST) to advance to the round of 16.

After losing game one by two points at 9-9, Shin pumped his fist in the air as he took game two by two points at 9-9. Games 3 and 4 also went back and forth, with the score at 2-2.

In game five, Shin was down 4-9 before scoring five consecutive points to tie the game at 9-9, but was unable to pull away. In the next game, he took a big 6-1 lead.

In the final game, down 2-6 and facing a cliffhanger at 8-10, Shin scored four straight points to turn the match around.먹튀검증

After the match, Shin took a moment to recover from the extreme tension. “When I was tied at 10-10, I had goosebumps all over my body. I’m glad I got over the hump.”

After a highly anticipated mixed doubles quarterfinal with Lim Jong-hoon (KEX), Shin was disappointed to lose to the world No. 2 pair of Hayata Hina and Harimoto Tomokazu (JPN), but he stayed focused and pulled off a dramatic upset.

Despite making it through to the round of 16, she will now face ‘World No. 1’ Sun Yingxia (CHN) in her quest for her first World Championship medal.

She has yet to drop a game in this tournament and is in top form. Yubin Shin, who won gold in the singles and silver in the team event at the Tokyo Olympics, met Sun Yingxia once before at the 2018 Austrian Open, where she lost 0-4.

“My goal is to showcase everything I’ve been training for on the big stage,” she said before the tournament, so it will be interesting to see what she can do against Sun Yingxia.
