DP World Tour Wins Dispute Settlement with LIV Player

The DP World Tour (European Tour) won the LIV Golf Invitational player in the mediation of the dispute.

The DP World Tour imposed a fine of £100,000 (approximately 160 million won) and suspension from the DP World Tour competition on players who participated in the LIV tournament in June of last year, and LIV players such as Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood (above) Thirteen players protested that the punishment was unfair. However, the Sports Tribunal sided with DP World Tour, and as a result, LIV, sponsored by Saudi Arabian capital, suffered a blow. The Sport Tribunal is an independent body that mediates and adjudicates sports disputes in the UK.

British local media expected that LIV players such as Poulter and Westwood would give up their DP World Tour membership to avoid punishment due to the Sports Court’s ruling.

The Sports Tribunal has yet to make an official announcement, and the DP World Tour said it “remains silent out of respect for the Sports Tribunal.” British media expects that the ruling of the Sports Court will be made public on the first day (6th) of the Masters, a major tournament of the American Professional Golf (PGA) Tour.
