A dramatic equaliser sees Colombia through to the Round of 16 on top.
Colombia’s Under-20 football team drew 1-1 with Senegal in the third match of Group C of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata in La Plata, Argentina, at 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday. However, Colombia secured top spot with two wins and a draw (7 points) and progressed to the round of 16, while Senegal were eliminated in fourth place with two draws and a loss (2 points).

Colombia were not so lucky. Seven minutes into the second half, Salazar sent in a cross from the left and Manyama’s header hit the post. Then, in the 13th minute, a cross came in from the left and Angel tried to head it over the bar.
Colombia continued to attack. In the 20th minute, Angel unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that was blocked by Ndiaye, and then Luna tried again but was denied by the Senegalese defence.
But in a dramatic moment, Colombia equalised. In the 50th minute, Cortes equalised with a chip shot. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Colombia finishing first and Senegal fourth.
