Carmelo Anthony retires without championship ring …”It’s bittersweet”

After 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), star forward Carmelo Anthony (USA-38), who ranks ninth on the league’s all-time regular-season scoring list, announced his retirement on Wednesday.

Anthony, who hasn’t played a single game this season, announced his decision in a video posted to social media, calling it “bittersweet,” saying, “It’s time to say goodbye to the game that gave me pride and a purpose in life.”스포츠토토

Drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, Anthony went on to play 19 seasons with the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers, and finally the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2021-2022 season.

He ranks ninth on the list with 28,289 career regular-season points. Only LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, Wilt Chamberlain, and Shaquille O’Neal have scored more.

He is one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history, a 10-time All-Star, a one-time scoring champion, and a six-time All-NBA selection. He also competed for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing, 2021 London, and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, helping the U.S. win three gold medals.

After winning the 2003 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I tournament while at Syracuse University, James turned pro immediately. James (No. 1 overall), who was born in 1984, formed a rivalry with James as a rookie, motivated by the 2003 draft. At the time, he was drafted alongside Chris Bosh (No. 4 – Hall of Famer) and Dwyane Wade (No. 5 – set to be inducted this year). It’s safe to say he has a Hall of Fame spot reserved for himself.

However, he has never won a championship in the NBA. His best finish was reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2009 while playing for Denver.

After playing with James on the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-2022 season, he was effectively retired this season as he was without a team.

Anthony finished his career averaging 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in the regular season. He played most of his career in Denver and New York. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was very proud to play at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks.

After retirement, he said he will be watching his son Kiyan, a high school senior who is highly regarded as a shooting guard.

“My son…,I will continue forever through you. The time has come for you to carry on the torch.”
