Benzema also presented the Ballon d’Or trophy to the fans. Benzema won his first Ballon d’Or in 2022 after winning the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and Spanish La Liga double, finishing as top scorer in both competitions. Benzema delighted the Al Ittihad faithful with a ceremony in which he lifted the Ballon d’Or trophy above his head and placed it in his mouth.

When asked why he chose to move to Saudi Arabia, Benzema said: “I am a Muslim and this is a Muslim country. I always wanted to live here, it’s very good to be in Saudi Arabia,” he said, adding, “When I told my family I was moving to Saudi Arabia, everyone was happy.”

“It’s one of the best clubs in Saudi Arabia. They have a lot of passionate fans and trophies.” “I want to improve the level of this club. The fans are very important. Their passion motivates me to be the best I can be on the pitch.”

Al Ittihad won the league title this season, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Alnas. Next season, they’ll look to make it two in a row with Benzema at the helm. The match-up between Benzema and Ronaldo, who played together at Real, is sure to attract a lot of attention.

As well as Benzema, Al Ahly have also signed France international midfielder N’Golo Kante. The club offered Kante a staggering €100 million for a two-year contract.

The list of European stars playing in Saudi Arabia could grow. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, both out of contract at Barcelona, as well as Manchester City striker Riyad Mahrez, have also attracted interest from Saudi clubs.
